Terminology and Interface Concepts

A guide to the terms and concepts used across the Vezorqalumi platform, intended to help users understand the language used in the interface and in this website's descriptions of the platform.

Key terms used in the Vezorqalumi platform

The following definitions reflect how each term is used within the Vezorqalumi context. Some terms have broader meanings in other contexts; the definitions below apply specifically to this platform.

Collection
The body of information that has been submitted to or ingested by the Vezorqalumi platform and subsequently made available for review. The collection is bounded — it contains only what has been processed, not everything that could theoretically be relevant to a given topic.
Classification
The process by which individual items in the collection are assigned to one or more categories. Classification is applied automatically during the intake stage. It determines where an item appears within the platform's navigation hierarchy.
Category
A defined grouping within the platform's information hierarchy. Categories are determined by the classification schema and may have parent categories (broader groupings) and sub-categories (more specific groupings). An item may belong to more than one category.
Hierarchy
The arrangement of categories from broader to narrower groupings. The hierarchy reflects the structural relationships between categories as determined during the classification and arrangement phases of the platform's processing pipeline.
Intake
The initial stage at which information enters the platform. During intake, items are received, assessed for format compatibility, assigned a timestamp, and queued for classification. Intake does not involve editorial judgement about an item's content.
Contextual summary
A brief description of an item's content that is generated from the item itself during processing. The contextual summary is displayed alongside the item in the review interface to help users assess relevance without needing to open the full item immediately.
Review interface
The user-facing layer of the Vezorqalumi platform through which users navigate categories, read contextual summaries, and access individual items. The review interface is separate from the processing pipeline and does not expose classification logic directly to users.
Enquiry
A message submitted by a prospective or current user to the Vezorqalumi support team. Enquiries may relate to platform access, questions about capabilities, or support requests. They are submitted through the enquiry form on the Enquire page.
Access request
A specific type of enquiry in which a user requests permission to access the platform or a part of its collection. An access request is assessed by the support team and does not automatically result in access being granted.

How Vezorqalumi presents information to users

The following notes explain the interface conventions that users are likely to encounter when navigating the platform.

Navigation breadcrumbs

Breadcrumb navigation shows the path from the top of the hierarchy to the current location. Each segment of the breadcrumb is a link to that level of the hierarchy, allowing users to move upward without using the browser's back function.

Category panels

Category panels display the name of the category, the number of items it contains, and a brief description of the category's scope. They are the primary navigation element for moving through the information hierarchy.

Item entries

Each item in the collection is presented as an entry showing its title, contextual summary, category assignment, and intake date. Users can open the full item from the entry view. Related items may be linked at the bottom of the full item view.

Relationship indicators

Where the classification process identifies a structural relationship between two items — for example, if they belong to the same sub-category — the interface may display an indicator linking them. These relationships are derived from classification, not from editorial curation.
